Beef curry

beef curry is an easy and delicious Kerala style dish.

  • 2 pounds pounds well-trimmed boneless beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 3 tbsp tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 2 large onions, sliced
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 large garlic sticks
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 tbsp dried crushed red pepper
  • 11/2 cups whole milk
  • 3 l team quartered
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp minced peeled fresh ginger
  • 11/2 tbsp tablespoons curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Hot cooked rice


  1. Sprinkle beef with salt and pepper. 

  2. Heat 2 tbsp oil in heavy large pot over high heat.

  3. add beef to pot and brown on all sides.

  4. using the spoon transfer to plate.

  5. heat remaining 1tbsp oil in same pot over medium-high heat.add some onions and saute till the color changes to brown about 7 minutes.Then return the beef to pot.

  6. add mixtture of cinnamon sticks,,garlic,cloves,cinnamon ,bay leaf and dried red pepper to a pot.

  7. Then stir about 1minute.

  8. stir in chutney,milk.tomatoes,lemon juice,ginger,milk,tomatoes

  9. reduce heat,and simmer until beef is tender.

  10. Stir in milk, tomatoes, chutney, lemon juice, ginger,o boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until beef is tender, stirring occasionally, about 2 hours.
